Our Program

New River Cove blends traditional 12-step based treatment with progressive and holistic program components. A systemic approach is used to assess and define the clinical, physical, and nutritional goals for each resident. Individual treatment plans are developed to help each resident achieve mental, emotional, and physical harmony.

Located on the edge of the rain forest, New River Cove provides a setting that creates spiritual tranquility which is the basis for long-term healing and recovery. On-site laboratory services and a 20,000 square foot fitness complex help each resident achieve functional fitness. New River Cove is also a working ranch and has a stable with world-class horses. A multi-media conference center provides ample room for resident's education and staff development.

New River Cove offers both primary and extended-care programs that range from thirty days to lengths as recommended by the attending physician. The extended-care program is designed to aid the resident's successful transition from a therapeutic community to their return home. Prior to discharge, a plan is developed for each resident and referrals may be made to local treatment providers.

  Program Enhancements

Alcoholism and drug addiction are diseases that have a wide-ranging negative impact on an individual's well-being. New River Cove offers three unique programs to its residents to enhance their recovery process during treatment and enrich their quality of life - mentally, emotionally, physically and spiritually.

Performance Nutrition: An individualized nutrition regimen focuses on the re-establishment of an anabolic nutritional state in the body to restore health and vitality and to counter the catabolic, or destructive, effects of addiction. Performance nutrition will enhance the resident's sense of well-being and energy levels, to better deal with daily emotional stress and rejuvenate the body's immune system and physiological functions for peak performance and maximum health.

Centering: Movement meditation is used to help strengthen the resident's mind-body link in order to enhance personal psychological and physical harmony. Centering is designed to strengthen the individual's sense of self-empowerment, sensitivity and awareness of the behavioral reactions to cues in our internal and external environment and how they affect our health and behavior.

Peak Performance: Functional fitness is the ability to maximize physical performance during work and play without placing undue stress on the mind and body. The focus is on strengthening the core or the powerhouse of the body through and integration of different fitness components - strength, flexibility, cardiovascular capacity and coordination. Individualized programming will enable each resident to discover their physical potential and the power of harmony and balance between the mind and the body.
